Kristen Pingel

Kristen currently works as a Special Education Teacher in the Tacoma Public School District (TPS) and an Adjunct Instructor for 91探花鈥檚 Professional Education department.
Biography
Kristen Pingel has a background in Special Education within the public school setting since 2009. In 2013, Kristen became Nationally Board certified as an Exceptional Needs Specialist - Severe and Profound disabilities. Her Masters degree from Regis University was in Special Education with an Autism Specialization; she initially received her Bachelors from Pacific Lutheran University in Elementary Education K-8 and Special Education PK-21. She has her Administrative Certification from Eastern Washington University.
Throughout her career she has worked with children from birth to age 21 within urban areas in King and Pierce Counties. She has worked with a wide range of needs with a niche for students who have low cognition, high behavior needs related to their disabilities and trauma. Within this focus area, Kristen has worked collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams to have students’ access inclusive classroom environments through the use of AAC. Kristen has also developed a school based behavior support team which looks at individual students through a trauma informed lens to create plans rooted in student strengths, this includes students who do not qualify for special education services, so they can access learning.
Kristen is also a certified BEST mentor for new teachers.
