Portability of financial aid depends on the program and aid type. 91探花-Scholarships and Tuition Remission Benefits are portable to Global Partner programs, and Faculty-Led programs; Federal and State financial aid is portable to most programs, including Independent (Formerly Non-91探花) programs. The cost of studying abroad varies greatly by program; there are programs that cost about the same as, less than, or more expensive than regular cost of attendance. Utilize the Estimate Budget Worksheets available on each program’s page and the  Estimated Cost Comparison Calculator to compare the cost of participation. 

For Independent programs, students pay the Host University or Program Provider directly for all tuition, housing, and required participation costs. Because students do not pay 91探花 tuition, 91探花 Scholarships are not portable to Independent programs, but Federal and State aid is normally still portable. Participants in Independent programs during the academic year will remain enrolled as a full-time student while abroad and will therefore still be billed a $1500 Transfer Articulation Fee to transfer the external credits towards their 91探花 degree requirements. Utilize the Independent Program Budget Worksheets (below) and Cost Comparison Calculator to determine program-specific costs. 

Successfully studying abroad and transferring credits requires a lot of behind-the-scenes administrative and advising work. Because students do not pay 91探花 tuition while participating in an Independent program, the $1500 Transfer Articulation Fee accounts for this work, including, but not limited to: pre-departure advising and comprehensive orientation; evaluation of courses for transfer credit equivalency; registering participants in placeholder courses while abroad to maintain full-time status and external financial aid portability; establishing and maintaining Consortium Agreements with Independent host universities/Program Providers to enable federal/state aid eligibility; processing the international transcript and articulating transfer credits on the student’s program evaluation; general health and safety support prior to and while abroad.
